Permanent Makeup vs. Microblading

by | Jan 28, 2020 | Permanent Makeup

Perhaps when most people hear the words “permanent makeup” they think of their grandmother’s eyebrows that definitely look drawn on. Vice versa, when people think about microblading, they probably think about those places in the mall that suddenly keep popping up. Whether you think either of them is good or bad, I might be able to persuade you of the benefits of both treatments.

Permanent Makeup

Permanent makeup treatments have truly progressed since the time your great grandmother had it done, especially when it comes to the eyebrows. The best part about this treatment is that once you have this done once, you’ll have perfectly shaped eyebrows for the rest of your life. The needle used to insert pigment into the skin goes deeper into the skin to ensure lasting results. Permanent makeup is better known for creating that perfectly shaped eyebrow while microblading creates a fuller effect.

Microblading

This is the newer treatment that has been taking beauty guru social media by storm. It is fairly similar to permanent makeup eyebrows, but the main difference is the permanency. Microblading uses a needle to deposit small amounts of pigment into the skin, but it is only semi-permanent. The treatment only breaks the superficial layer of skin so even though it uses a similar technique to permanent makeup, it does not last as long. The pain level for microblading can be compared to something like the feeling of a paper cut each time the needle touches the skin. Even though it hurts, most reputable and expert microblade artists can numb the brow area to ease the pain.

Another great thing about microblading is that it can actually help stimulate hair growth in the brow area. Therefore, this makes the results look more natural than permanent makeup. After the first microblading procedure, you will need to schedule a touch-up appointment in about a month. However, after the touch-up, the results can last anywhere from one to three years. The longevity is contingent upon your lifestyle. For example, if you are outdoors and in the sun for most of the day, you will find that the pigment will fade much more rapidly than to someone that has an indoor job.
