3 Ways to Boost Your Collagen Production

by | May 25, 2021 | Tips & Tricks

Collagen is one of the most crucial proteins in our body, and it is the most common! It can be found in fat, tendons, ligaments, and other such places. Collagen keeps our bodies together, quite literally, as it is a big component to the strength of our bone structure! With healthy levels of collagen, the cells that contain this protein gives us a strong and youthful appearance. So, that’s why when you hear “collagen” more often than not it has something to do with “anti-aging” treatments and whatnot.

However, there’s another component to this youthful glow we all want to keep, and it is elastin. It is found in places like arteries and lungs because as you can probably take from the name, it has the ability to snap back into place and maintain the original shapes (aka perfect for contracting places in the body). So, together, collagen and elastin work to give our skin its texture and shape, so good levels = good, strong, youthful skin. Healthy collagen levels is a must if you want skin that barely seems to age, or at least it ages a lot slower than normal skin!

Here are three ways you can boost your collagen to get that youthful glow:

(big plus: these are super easy to implement into your life)

1.Aloe Vera

Yep, that’s right. You don’t just want to use aloe vera for your sunburns! It has healing properties that we’ve used for our burns for so long, but how about when we don’t have a sunburn? Yes ma’am. You should be using aloe vera every day if you want to boost that collagen. You can either apply it topically with gels or creams, or you can take an aloe vera supplement to improve skin quality. Find the one that works for you and get to it!

2.Ginseng

This one is one of my favorites because ginseng is helpful for a lot of things, one of them being collagen! It helps with anti-aging and it is a well-studied plant so you can try it without qualms about it being some fake marketing ploy. Ginseng can be absorbed well by the skin without creating any other adverse reactions like a lot of chemical based products. Ginseng will help promote collagen production and growth as well as serve as a protectant from UVB ray damage. This is an all-around good guy when it comes to health, immunity, and skin health. Just take a supplement or drink a ginseng tea, and you’re sure to see that glowing difference.

3.Cilantro

Lastly, we have cilantro! I know, it may sound weird but this herb has a lot of vitamin C which has been proven to boost collagen production. It contains linoleic acid which has also been found to be a fantastic anti-aging factor for our skin. Just amp up your recipes that use cilantro or go buy a cilantro extract to take orally as a detoxifier.
