I know that sometimes we see ads for new skincare products and elements to add to our routines. We tend to go crazy with these newfound methods and products just to try to attempt to get that perfect glowing skin. In my experience, a lot of people will turn to exfoliation for perfect skin. Now, exfoliating your skin has great benefits, but there are many aspects to also keep in mind as over exfoliation can damage the skin.
It is not necessarily hard to understand how to exfoliate properly, but many aspects do tend to get glossed over, and people don’t do it right! I am here to fix that!
Let’s get into why you should exfoliate in the first place.
Exfoliation is particularly important the more you age. Exfoliation helps to get rid of dead skin cells that quite literally dull your skin. As you get older, dead skill cell turnover gets slower, so exfoliation can help get your complexion back up to its former glowing glory.
Exfoliation can also help moisturizers and serums take hold better on your skin, so overall, exfoliation seriously have so many benefits! It can also be great for makeup application as its able to penetrate the skin rather than sitting atop flaky skin.
This skincare technique is made to restore your skin’s glow and visible health, but let’s talk about a few of the things to be wary of when exfoliating.
First and foremost, make sure your exfoliator is made for your specific skin type. It does not make sense to buy an oily skin exfoliator for people with dry skin. Your skin will be so unbalanced and the exfoliator will more than likely be working overtime.
The same can be said with how often one should exfoliate. Over exfoliation can break the skin and produce terrible results. This also depends on the weather. For me, I tend to exfoliate once a week in the colder months and sometimes up to two times a week in the summer months. My skin is a combination type, so too much exfoliation can seriously wreck my skin.
You can invest in particular tools to exfoliate, but again, pay attention to your skin type. Some people, like me, prefer to exfoliate with my bare hands. It works for me, but definitely try out other options if you still aren’t seeing the results you want.
Wow… that was a lot, but honestly, I think important info! Speaking of exfoliation though… today is my exfoliation day, and I almost forgot!
