Just in the last blog, we were talking about skin types and how it determines the effectiveness of a product on your skin. I bring this back up because one of the types we mentioned was sensitive skin aka skin that gets irritated easily.
If you remember, we talked about how sensitive skin reacts more easily to stimuli and the protective skin barrier is a little less effective than other skin types. So, as you can imagine, sensitive skin gets irritated much more easily than other types. I have personal experience with this, given the fact I also have sensitive skin.
Anyways, when you notice your skin is irritated, you need to start the process of calming it down as soon as possible. Inflamed skin can actually cause long term effects like premature aging and other skin sensitivities.
Irritated skin can occur from a number of things, such as a change in the weather, stress in your own life, and even just a change in an environment like travel. Skin irritation can be anything from dryness, acne, redness, and other common skin irritations you’ve probably experienced before.
So, let’s get into some natural ways on how to calm down and take care of your irritated skin.
Water
Water is a miracle drink from the heavens above. Literally guys, drinking water is the number one remedy for basically any problem. People tend to not put enough emphasis on drinking water because it seems so basic, but trust me, it’ll change your skin game forever.
Sleep
Sleep is another fantastic way to get your skin glowing! When you’re sleep-deprived, your skin will not be at its best, and that is a guarantee. Sleep helps generate new collagen, which keeps your skin youthful and glowing, so without that chance to replenish your collagen, your skin will be dull and irritated. Lack of collagen can impact your skin in ways that could cause premature aging, and I am sure no one wants that!
Sweat it Out
This might sound counterproductive at first since we’re asking you to get that sweat on, but on the contrary! If your face is irritated with acne or redness, this can be a perfect way to open up those pores and release the buildup. Your skin will come out looking great and future breakouts can be prevented. Working out also is a great way to lower your stress which can also help keep your skin smooth.
Food
When you figure out which foods cause inflammation in you, such as dairy, sugar, or gluten, depending on your dietary restrictions, this can help decrease a lot of skin issues. When your skin acts up, calm it down by enriching your diet with whole foods like vegetables, good grains, and fruit.
A Good Cleanse
Cleansing and exfoliating your skin can be a great way to get rid of the impurities and calm down the irritation. Applying a good moisturizer is also essential to keeping your skin calm and stable. However, be careful when choosing exfoliators and the amount of times a week you exfoliate as this can also serve as an irritant if you aren’t careful.
Keeping your skin calm and smooth is essential to preventing premature aging and developing other skin sensitivities, as well as your overall health. Good, clear skin is a great way to boost your confidence and keep yourself happy and healthy.
